Aswathy Vijayan

Aswathy Vijayan has been a trained artist with her own enriching experiences of making authentic pieces of artworks through a variety of mediums. Her talent in all things art is unparalleled, be it mural painting, Thangka painting of the Buddhist Spiritual Art or teaching Art History and Visual Arts to Students of various age groups.As a young child, Aswathy found herseld mesmerised by the abundance of art. This prompted her to pursue education from Fine Arts KSS School of Arts, Kottayam, in Kerala.  She equipped herself with all the insights on Thangka Painting, from the Centre for Living Budhist Art named Thangde Gatzal, at Dharamshala, in Himachal Pradesh, India.After completing her graduation in Economics from MG University, Kerala, she is now pursuing Masters in Applied Psychology from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, India.  Having started her career as an artist in 2010, she has now worked with different galleries and achieved excellence in an array of mediums such as oil, acrylic, water colour, charcoal and mixed mediums. She ha salso triumphed to finesse Thangka and mural making.

 Apart from religiously working on art, in her pursuit for learning and achieving more, Aswathy has also served as Office and Field Clerk under the Government of Kerala, until 2021. During the time, she actively involved herself in the planning and execution of umpteen number of welfare projects for the local government.

 When it comes to having aspirations and following it, Aswathy has left no stone unturned. She has not only been an artist, but rendered her service as a gallery manager as well from 2017 to 2020.During her stint with the Watermelon Art Gallery, Kerala, she has helmed various exhibitions and was in charge of purchasing and selling artworks for the same. Her tryst with art and galleries has been such that she associated with anything that was related to the creative world. The young artist has spearheaded many educational art programmes for students.

 Aswathy has also conducted classes for Art History and Portrait Making, aimed at students, as an in-house event

She made sure that her expertise reached people and inspired them to try their hand at it. Teaching art and craft to women’s groups as part of the Women Empowerment Campaign was one such event.Her experiences in volunteering have been something Aswathy cherishes, and she recalls being the Art Instructor with the Government Lower Primary School, Kerala, India. Teaching art and craft to primary school kids was such a refreshing experience that it is etched in her memory. She also ensured to lend her service to Kudumbasree Women’s Groups, Kerala.

 She captured the attention of art aficionados at the Monsoon Art Fest, a group exhibition organised by the Artist Association in Kerala.  ‘Enchanted Garden’ Group Exhibition, organised by Aithihya Art Gallery, in Kerala was another event where she struck a chord.

When she is not preoccupied with perfecting the strokes on her canvas, Ashwathy loves reading, writing, travelling and mountaineering.
